Foundation of the grenadier companies
On July 15, 1942, General Henri Guisan observed the combat exercises on Schwägalp led by Captain Matthias Brunner. On February 18, 1943, General Guisan signed Order No. 13/819, which arranged the
creation of the new troop unit «Grenadiers». Since then, Captain Brunner has been considered the father of grenadiers, a proud unit that celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2018.
