Spectacular suspension cable transport
To provide access to the engineering marvel «Säntis cable car» to as many people as possible, a road from Urnäsch to Schwägalp was built and the post bus started operation on this route. At the beginning, the complex construction work was carried out without any mechanical aids. It took 43 days to transport the track ropes from Herisau to Schwägalp and another 40 days from Schwägalp to Säntis. Each of the two track ropes had a length of 2300 meters a weight of 35 tons.
