Cable car

Are you allowed to take bikes on the railway?

No. Bikes are not transported, as there are no bike trails on the Säntis.

Which discounts are valid?

With the SBB General Abonnement or the Half-Fare travelcard you travel at half price. The SBB Day Pass and the Municipal Day Pass are valid and you also travel at half price. Children under the age of 6 and children accompanied by their parents with a Junior Card travel free of charge on the suspension railroad.

Holders of the following passes also receive a discount: Interrail (50%), Swiss Travel Pass Flex (50%).
With the OSKAR Holiday Card, Bodensee Card Plus or children with an SBB Junior/Parent Card travel free of charge.

How much luggage/goods are you allowed to take on the cable car?

Hand luggage can be carried free of charge, provided that it can be accommodated without restricting fellow travellers.
Transport of materials/goods must be registered in advance.

What does the Säntis offer? What can you experience?

The Säntis is very versatile. It is the highest mountain in the Lake Constance region and inspires with its 360° panoramic view over
6 countries. The interactive adventure world offers a fascinating insight into the weather on the Säntis, ice, geology and the history of the suspension railway. Admission is free of charge.
In the summit restaurant you can enjoy regional dishes and in the shop you will find great souvenir gifts and articles from the Säntis.

How long are vouchers valid for?

Our vouchers are valid for 13 months from the date of issue. After expiry, the value paid will be credited to the existing offer.
Free travel or shareholder tickets expire irrevocably after the expiry date.

How much does the return journey from Schwägalp to Säntis cost?

How much does the train journey cost for hotel guests?

Our hotel guests benefit from a special price for uphill and downhill journeys of CHF 22.00. Our package deals include an upand downhill journey. During a business interruption of the Säntis suspension railway, be it due to the weather conditions or due to technical interruptions, there is no claim to the up- and downhill journeys. The tickets are only valid during the stay. The timetable of the Säntis cable car can be found in our brochures and on www.saentisbahn.ch or inform yourself at the reception.

How long does a trip up the Säntis take?

From Schwägalp, it takes around 10 minutes to reach Säntis on the suspension railway.

Can you also buy tickets for the train journey online?

Yes, the tickets can be used once within 13 months of purchase, after which they are no longer valid. Tickets ordered online will be sent to you directly as a PDF. The tickets are valid directly on your smartphone or as a printout. You can pass through the turnstile directly using the QR code. Concessions (GA travelcard, Half-Fare travelcard, SwissTravelPass) must be presented at the turnstile.

What is the weather like on the mountain?

What can you experience on the Säntis summit?

Glide almost weightlessly up to the Säntis summit at 2502 metres above sea level on the cable car. During the ten-minute journey, the Schwägalp lies at your feet, as does the overwhelming Alpine panorama over six countries. The panoramic cabin has capacity for 85 people. The cable car runs every 30 minutes, on the half and full hour or continuously if required. There are spacious panoramic terraces on the Säntis, all of which are accessible by lift. The four adventure worlds «Weather Mountain», «Geology», «Ice World» and the «History of Säntis» are available to you free of charge.

Is the hiking trail to the Säntis open?

Hiking on the mountain trails is at your own risk. The mountain trails to/from the Säntis are accessible from mid-June to around the end of October, depending on snow and weather conditions. The safety ropes are dismantled from November onwards.

Note: Always wear equipment appropriate to the conditions. On a hike, this includes: good mountain boots, warm clothing, a waterproof jacket and, depending on the weather conditions, an ice axe or crampons.

What is the Nature Adventure Park?

Säntis – the hotel is located in the middle of the fascinating nature adventure park. Walk through the history of mysterious moors. Get air in magical forests. Watch rare animals and plants in front of one of the most beautiful natural scenery in Europe. Step by step you will learn more about life and culture in the Alps. The history of the earth, the more than 1000-year tradition of Schwägalp as pastureland, tourism, nature conservation and much more.

What kind of parking facilities do you have?

Sufficient outdoor parking spaces are available for our guests. The covered car park offers 38 spaces. You can reserve a parking space in the garage for CHF 20.00 per night, subject to availability.

Can you hire sledges or snowshoes?

Sledges and snowshoes including poles can be hired at the reception of «Säntis – das Hotel».

Please note:
Always wear sturdy and weatherproof footwear and suitable clothing.

Where can you buy souvenirs?

In our Souvenir-Shops in the hotel or on the peak, you find typical original products of the Säntis from the Appenzellerland and Toggenburg. Surprise your friends and family with a unique present.

What do we offer in the wellness area?

Enjoy our cozy wellness «Weidwald».
The spa area features a finish- and a bio sauna, a steam bath, a hot tub and sensory showers. The relaxation room with a view of nature offers a unique atmosphere for recreation. From the relaxation room there is the possibility to go directly on the Kneipp path into the fresh alpine air. The bag with the necessary wellness equipment can be found in your room, the bathrobe in the wardrobe. There are no lockers in the spa. We recommend that you deposit valuables in the room or at the reception.
Our wellness area has a nude- and textile zone. The entrance is from 16 years. For hygienic reasons, the spa area may not be entered in casual clothes

Where are you allowed to smoke?

Our smoking lounge is located on the gallery floor. Cigarettes are available in our souvenir shops. A selection of cigars can be found in the Backseckelstobe, for advice and distribution please contact the service desk.

Is there free internet access?

The entire hotel is equipped with free W-LAN. Select the «saentis-guest». You can ask for the password at the reception.

Where is the Laternliweg and are you allowed to go sledging there?

From mid-November to mid-March, and every evening between Christmas and New Year, the romantic Lantern Trail on the Schwägalp (circular trail at the valley station) invites you to take a walk through the snow-covered willow forest of the Schwägalp/Säntis Nature Adventure Park after dark. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, the prepared winter hiking trail is illuminated with many paraffin lamps. On Friday and Saturday evenings, it even extends as far as the Gasthaus Passhöhe.
The Laternliweg is free of charge, you do not pay admission.

Note: Sledging is prohibited on the Laternliweg. The Laternliweg is a winter hiking trail and not a toboggan run.

Is the Säntis wheelchair accessible?

Access to the suspension railway, the summit restaurant, the viewing terraces and the adventure world are wheelchair-accessible. Disabled parking spaces and the post bus stop are located directly at the entrance to the valley station.

How can I reserve seats in the restaurant or the suspension railway?

It is not possible to reserve a seat for the suspension railway ride.
You are welcome to make a reservation by e-mail or by telephone / +41 71 365 65 65.
Reservations for breakfast are only possible on the first ascent or from 10 persons.
Reservations for lunch are possible until 12.00 noon (arrival time).

Does breakfast on the Säntis summit take place every day?

Yes, we offer a rich breakfast buffet from Monday-Sunday from the first ascent until 10.30 am.
Reservations can be made for the first ascent or for groups of 10 or more.

Where can and may you go sledging?

Sledging is possible opposite the valley station behind the Schwägalp alpine cheese dairy. The winter hiking route from Schwägalp to Steinfluh (PostBus stop) is very suitable. After a 20-minute hike on the winter hiking trail to the «Siebenhütten» alpine huts, children and families can enjoy a leisurely toboggan run on sledges and bobsleighs.

Is there a half-board offer?

To offer you a stay as comfortable as possible, please let us know in advance if you have any allergies or dietary requirements. In addition to the bed & breakfast you can also book our half-board package for CHF 48.00 per person per night. The 3-course menu is compiled daily by our chef. You can also eat in our restaurant with a large sun terrace.
