Since 1996, cheese has been crafted with passion and great attention to detail at the Alpschaukäserei Schwägalp nestled in the impressive natural setting of the Säntis massif. The dairy was founded by local farmers who drive their cows up to the alpine pastures during the summer months. To this day, more than 50 alpine farming families from the region deliver fresh alpine milk to the dairy daily from May to September.
In large copper vats, the renowned Schwägalp cheese is handcrafted with great care. Other specialities such as raclette cheese, Mutschli, butter, and goat cheese are also lovingly produced here.
A glimpse into the art of cheesemaking
Behind the large glass front, you have an unobstructed view of the production area. Depending on the time of day, you can watch the cheesemaking, pressing, or care of the cheese wheels. This experience is especially fascinating for families, groups, and school classes. We therefore recommend visiting the dairy in the morning for the best chance to witness the process. The combination of living tradition and authentic craftsmanship makes this visit a truly special outing.
