Dreamy winter hikes along the illuminated Laternliweg lantern trail, followed by a cozy fondue feast – it’s like being in your very own wintertime fairy tale! The lantern trail on the Schwägalp pass is open after dark from November to March. Enjoy the romantic atmosphere along the groomed trail, which is lit by countless oil lamps, as it winds through the snow-covered forests of the NaturErlebnispark natural park.
Opening hours
Thursday through Saturday from November to March; daily over Christmas and New Year.
On Fridays and Saturdays, the illuminated lantern trail takes you to the Gasthaus Passhöhe restaurant.
Important notice
Please refrain from sledding if icy conditions are forecast. Despite preparation, slippery spots are possible.
We recommend that you wear good shoes with treaded soles and ideally with spikes.
Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
IThe lantern trail is not illuminated in windy and stormy weather.
Laternlibar
Warm up with a hot drink in the Laternlibar. The Laternlibar is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 pm to 8 pm, and daily over Christmas and New Year.
Cap it off with a cozy fondue
Once you’ve finished soaking up the wonders of the lantern trail, treat yourself to a delicious fondue at “Säntis – the hotel” or the Gasthaus Passhöhe restaurant. Reservations required!

Exclusive experience for groups of 20 or more
For larger groups, we can arrange to light up the lantern trail on your desired date, even outside of scheduled hours. A visit to the Laternlibar or a traditional fondue is the perfect way to finish your group experience. The Gasthaus Passhöhe restaurant has a maximum capacity of 75 people; larger groups are welcome at the restaurant in “Säntis – the hotel”.
