Romantic winter hikes on the lantern-lit Laternliweg, Nordic walks or snowshoe treks with cosy fondue suppers – here you can find your winter’s tale!

During the cold months of the year, the weather on Säntis – the highest mountain in eastern Switzerland – affords you unforgettable views, from the dazzling winter sun to dramatic snow drifts.

Unbelievably romantic. The Laternliweg.

The romantic, lantern-lit Laternliweg is illuminated after dusk on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and every day over Christmas and New Year from 16 November 2017 to 17 March 2018, at Säntis – the Hotel. On Friday and Saturday, the Laternliweg leads to the Gasthaus Passhöhe.

On the walk through the Schwägalp/Säntis NaturErlebnispark, you can enjoy the cleared path lit by innumerable oil lamps, the snow-covered forest and the romantic atmosphere. Warm yourself up from time to time with some hot punch, and see out the evening with a warm and cosy fondue or raclette supper in Gasthaus Passhöhe or Säntis – the Hotel.

Circular route walking time
approx. 40 mins

Please note:
The Laternliweg is not illuminated in high winds or stormy weather.

Snowshoe trekking

When a famous mountain climber was once asked, “why do you climb mountains?”, his answer was: “Because they’re there!” There are, however, other reasons why making a foray into the fascinating mountainous world of Appenzell is worthwhile. Snowshoe trekking is ecological, healthy and a balm for the soul, as well as being an opportunity for profound experiences of nature. So go for a snowshoe ramble around our winter landscape! We are sure that doing so will ignite a passion for the mountains and for nature. And not just because they’re there!

The items available to hire are located at the reception at Säntis – the Hotel. Further information Tel. +41 71 365 66 00.
